The Nebraska Department of Revenue has made available a report on retail sales throughout the state for the month of August. When the 2023 sales were compared to 2022, Superior sales were up 3.6 percent. County-wide sales in Nuckolls County were up 4.8 percent for the same time period. Statewide sales in August were down 2.9 percent. Most neighboring counties reported a growth in retail sales. Hebron sales were up 4.2 percent but Thayer County sales were down 60.4 percent. Judge Michael Burns, who presides over the Nuckolls County Court, ordered a Superior juvenile offender committed to the Youth Rehabilitation Training Center in Kearney, Monday. The offender will be subject to intense supervised probation until he reaches the age of majority (19). The judge noted his probation was revoked because he attempted to flee when assigned to a group home in North Platte. He subsequently attempted to flee a detention facility at Madison. Rock Hills High School students traveled to Fort Hays State University on Thursday, November 9th. Over 600 students participated from 48 Kansas high schools. November 13 through 20 was National Collection Week for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts. Praise God! Superior and the surrounding towns donated 487 shoebox gifts this week. All the shoeboxes from the mid-Nebraska area were taken to Kearney on Monday where they were loaded on one big truck and sent to the Denver processing center to be prepared for international shipping. Veterans, their families and friends, were served a delicious meal at the Nelson American Legion on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11. The meal was prepared and served by members of the American Legion Auxiliary. There may be a new daycare provider in an old Superior location. Monday evening, after a closed session called to discuss the issue, the five members of the Superior City Council present voted to purchase the former Lighthouse Daycare Center. The Lighthouse Center was located in what had been the original location of Superior’s Nazarene church.
