    Mankato looked like a winter wonderland on Monday. However, travel conditions were poor. This picture features a vehicle traveling near Mankato on Highway 36.     With the heavy snowfall and anticipated high winds, Chris Peterson, the mayor of Superior, declared a snow emergency Monday morning. According to the news release from the city office, a snow emergency means weather conditions have made travel extremely hazardous.   • Murder case advances to Nuckolls Co. District Court

    As expected, a 30-year-old Superior resident was arraigned in county court last Wednesday and bound over to district court where he will asnwer charges associated with the death of another Superior resident on Dec. 17. Sebastian L. Dunbar has been charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony and intentional child abuse without serious bodily injury.     Friday, about 6:30 p.m. the Jewell County dispatch center maintained in the county sheriff’s office received a report that a semi-truck had left Highway 14 and over turned. The caller wasn’t sure of the location but thought it was north of Lovewell Lake. Emergency services personnel from both Jewell and Nuckolls County were dispatched to look for the accident.     Tis indeed the season to keep area children warm. So far this winter, 45 new coats purchased through the Superior Community Corporation’s “Coats for Kids” project, have been distributed! And there will probably be more as the program usually receives a handful of requests during the next couple of months in addition to those received at the start of the winter.     As this issue when to press Tuesday evening, Sebastion Dunbar, 30, was scheduled to be arraignment in Nuckolls County Court to answer charges related to the death of Molly Gruber, 35, on Dec. 17. After being found lying on the floor of her home, she was transported about one block to the Brodstone Healthcare hospital where she was pronounced dead.     Cindy Meyer is retiring as a Superior rural postal carrier today (Thursday, Dec. 28) after more than 25 years delivering mail. She has had three different routes, two in Nelson and the most recent one in Superior for 2 1/2 years. Meyer started as a rural carrier in Nelson before transferring to Superior.
