A man accused of attempting to murder his mother is to be arranged Friday in Webster County Court. On Jan. 18, deputies with the Webster County Sheriff’s Office were called to a residence located at 940 Webster Street in Red Cloud. A white male, 30 years old, identified as Clay Christensen, was arrested after his mother, the alleged victim, said he had attempted to asphyxiate her. On Feb. 20, Nuckolls County Commissioners met with the public twice, once after the regular meeting and again in the evening, to answer questions concerning the rehab of the current building or the possibility of a new building. Monday afternoon, members of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire five miles north and two miles west of Superior along U.S. Highway 136 west. The department sent five trucks: two grass rigs, a pumper truck, a tanker and the rescue truck with a bumper sprayer. Seventeen men responded to the call. Stacy Malone, 37, a Nelson High School graduate and the daughter of former Nelson residents, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Stemper, nearly lost her life last Wednesday when an intruder broke into her home, assaulted her and attempted to strangle her before leaving her unconscious and near death.
