  • Lawrence experienced brief power outage

    A planned power outage in Lawrence, last Wednesday, allowed for the installation of a three-phase transformer. The outage was scheduled between 8 a.m. and noon. The outage affected a small number of residential and business accounts. The installation will allow power to be restored to Sacred Heart Church. The power had been affected by a fire which caused major damage to the building. Repair work has advanced to where it is safe to restore power to the building....

  • Lawrence Elementary School has roof repaired

    A crew has been at work for more than a week undertaking warranty repair work on the roof of the Lawrence-Nelson Elementary School building. The work has not interfered with school activities. The roof was recovered recently. Some issues arose requiring the contractor to perform repairs.     Twenty-eight tear-filled eyes left the Crest Theatre in Superior on Sunday, after 14 Nelson Rubies viewed the movie “Sound of Hope - the Story of Possum Trot.” While many situations in the movie were sad, it was also inspirational and uplifting and spirits were soon made light when the group moved to a local eatery for food and fellowship.     Evergreen Cemetery- Thanks to a generous grant from Horizon Bank, Superior's Evergreen Cemetery west section features several new enhancements. The north boundary windbreak of lilac bushes had become derelict. The bushes were removed. They were replaced with 55 trees and plants. The trees include flowering crab apple among others.     The Nuckolls County Ag Society has received a $2,100 grant to fund the purchase of an AED machine and relevant training classes. The grant is provided through FCS America’s Working Here Fund.   • Superior Municipal Swimming Pool notices increase

    The Superior Municipal Swimming Pool opened its doors on May 27 this year. Lap swim is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Regular swim is from 1 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 9 everyday. There are four managers at the Superior Municipal pool this year. They are: Seth Going, Tierney Casper, Corissa Arickx and Emma Henderson.     The American Red Cross has issued an emergency appeal for blood donors. There is an extreme shortage of emergency blood across the nation. Dangerous heat levels and summer vacations are two of the factors influencing the shortage. The blood supply has dropped 25 percent since July 1. Donors of every type of blood are needed.
