Sacred Heart Church in Nelson, had their annual Christmas brunch Sunday. Before Mass started, the basement kitchen counters were filled with freshly baked casseroles and breakfast items. The Superior City Council as organized for the past two years met for the final time Monday evening, approved minutes from the prior meeting and paid claims before adjourning sine die. The oldest church building in Nuckolls County, the former Henrietta Presbyterian Church now located on the Nuckolls County Museum Grounds in Superior, was packed Sunday afternoon for the annual Christmas program sponsored by the Nuckolls County Historical Society. Jewell County Health Department has received 20 doses of seasonal influenza intended to vaccinate farmworkers in Kansas. To receive the vaccine for free, the person must be a farmworker in Kansas who works with livestock. This includes but is not limited to poultry, cattle, dairy and swine. Patients must be 19 years of age and older. This is regardless of insurance status but emphasis will be given to those who are uninsured or underinsured. The Nelson Community Club held a Winter Bazaar, at the city auditorium Saturday. The event was held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors filled the auditorium with products of every shape and size. The FFA students of Lawrence-Nelson were successful with their latest fund raiser. The students sold more than $16,000 worth of food products to the public. Students that sold more than $450 worth of products, were invited to attend a pizza party in recognition for their hard work. Keenagers met for a wonderful Thanksgiving meal at the fire hall on Thursday, Nov. 21. Hosting this meal was Brenda Janda and Betty Himmelberg. There were 33 guests attending. In January, members of the Superior Board of Education will appoint a new board member to fill the vacancy left by Matt Sullivan. Sullivan’s term expires at the end of 2024. The Superior Chamber of Commerce sponsored a passport contest in association with the Once Upon a Christmas promotion held Friday in downtown Superior. The chamber had originally planned to select one winner of 50 Superior Bucks from the completed passports but the response was so great, the decision was made to select two winners.
