The Superior and Rock Hills public schools have planned special activities for Monday in observance of Veterans Day. At Superior the day will begin with a veterans breakfast served in the high school library starting at 8:30. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded a boil water advisory for the City of Esbon public water supply system located in Jewell County. KDHE officials issued the advisory because of installation of new water mains resulting in a loss of pressure during construction. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination. On Oct. 24, the Courtland City Council hosted a special meeting to discuss the addition of turning lanes on U.S. Highway 36, a crucial infastruc-ture enhancement in preparation for the opening of the Central Valley Ag (CVA) grain handing facility known as the Courtland Hub. Todd A. Gumm, the son of Robert and Carolyn May (Bates) Gumm, was born Sept. 27, 1964, at Belleville, Kansas. He died on Oct. 29, 2024, at the Brodstone Healthcare hospital in Superior, Nebraska. Todd spent his childhood years and received his formal education attending the Mankato schools. Masonic Building A new chapter opened this week in the life of a more than century old building in downtown Superior. During its life, the building has housed many things. Superior has a new city clerk within sight. The four members of the city council present for Monday night’s meeting approved the hiring of Brenda Corman to fill the position which has been vacant since the resignation of Stuart Alsup. Mrs. Corman is currently working with the Superior Public Schools vocational agriculture program and will not become the fulltime clerk until July.
