This holiday weekend, we attended our son Jackson’s high school graduation in Omaha. As with many ceremonies, they recognized our veterans and enlisted service members. In a crowd of more than 1,000, less than 10 stood. The Bishop Casey Assembly of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus held their quarterly meeting last week Monday in Superior, Nebraska. Hastings College published the Dean’s List for its spring 2023 semester. For the semester, 361 students from 20 states and 11 countries were named to the Dean’s List. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.7 to 4.0 scale and be registered for full-time coursework. Every year the Nelson American Legion, Sons and Auxiliary members volunteer their time to place flags in the Nelson Cemetery, Courthouse Yard, and Memorial Plaza and organize and deliver the Memorial Day services at the Nora and Nelson cemeteries, and in Memorial Plaza in Downtown Nelson. In years past, the flags at the cemetery were not able to be placed because of rain, but this year every flag was flying high and a glorious site to behold....

This week 13 additional benches manufactured in Superior by Superior Industries were installed. When the work is completed, all of the street light poles between Second and Fifth streets along Central Avenue will have the circular benches.
