    The Jewell City Council met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. on Monday Feb. 3, at City Hall.     Superior's speech team competed at Aurora Saturday. Medals were extended to 15th place at this meet because of the size of it. There were 528 individual entries from 33 schools across Nebraska.     Friday afternoon before a staff meeting, the Good Samaritan Society's, Superior staff members, presented four of their peers, co-workers and friends with 2020 Ever Forward champion awards.     Biblical swarms of crop devouring locusts are eating their way across Africa. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO have declared the situation a crisis. Favorable climatic conditions allowed widespread breeding of the pest in East Africa, Southwest Asia and the area around the Red Sea. So far the countries experiencing the worst infestations are Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia.     Rock Hills Junior High School competed at the PikeTrail League Scholars Bowl Tournament Feb. 10, at Downs. There were 11 teams competing. The eighth grade team was made up of Abbey Schleifer, Cooper Rhea, Hannah Simmelink, Bella Volker and Cody Cleary.     Jewell, 150 years old, is celebrating her Sesquicentennial during 2020. The first event of that year-long celebration is the Jewell Sesquicentennial Historical Home Tour to be held on Sunday.
