Anglers will be happy to hear a new Walk-in Fishing Area (WIFA), formerly known as the FISH program, has been added near Beloit. This six acre pond is located just off the blacktop approximately five miles west of Beloit on Main Street and has shoreline access around much of the pond. The Burr Oak Community Library resumed normal operations Tuesday, June 9. The doors are now open to the public for materials checkout during regular business hours. A new State of Nebraska Directed Health Measure (DHM) took effect for South Heartland District Monday. The new measures are Phase II of relaxing the restrictions put in place to reduce the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Navy Airman Caitlyn May completed eight weeks of US Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, North Chicago, Ill., on April 23. She was one of 81 recruits in Training Division 160. Shaffer Union Cemetery, often just called Shaffer Cemetery, is located in Section 22 of Harrison Township. Isaac Shaffer donated the land, part of his homestead, for the cemetery. The cemetery is an old one, with at least three burials in 1873.
