Beginning today (Oct. 1), Nebraska drivers after renewing their driver license online will have the option to print their temporary license at home. Previously, when renewing a driver license online, the only way to obtain a temporary driver license while waiting for the new license to be printed and delivered, was to visit a DMV office. Rock Hills FBLA held a new member induction ceremony during its monthly meeting on Sept. 25. South Heartland District Health Department (SHDHD) officials reported 34 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in the four days (Friday through Monday), bringing the cumulative total number of cases in the four-county health district to 624. The new confirmed cases for the four-day period include: 26 in Adams, six in Clay, one in Nuckolls, and one in Webster. The new secretary at Rock Hills Junior-Senior High School is Jaid Runft. She grew up on a farm just outside of Scandia. After graduating from Pike Valley, she went to Fort Hays to major in communication studies with a minor in agriculture. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT)began a field survey Monday for the detailed design of proposed bridge improvements on U.S. 24 in Cloud County. The two locations surveyed are for the Lost Creek Bridge, .53 miles east of the Cloud-Mitchell county line and for the Cris Creek Bridge, 7.41 miles east of the Cloud/Mitchell county line. Fifty years ago last week this newspaper reported a Catholic priest serving in Nuckolls County had returned from a trip to his homeland. At that time Father John Prachar was serving the St. Stephens parish south of Lawrence. Later he was to serve the St. Joseph’s parish in Superior and Sacred Heart at Nelson. Hailing from a farm by Hardy, Sam Meyers, the principal of Rock Hills Junior-Senior High School has lived in Mankato for almost 20 years. The annual road rally sponsored by the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department was held Sunday, Sept. 6. Fifty-five vehicles and several hundred individuals enjoyed the afternoon trying to chase down and interpret “clues” to follow a route throughout the country side and to return home in an allotted time. OCCK Transportation is re-launching KANcycle, the regional bike sharing program that serves north central Kansas communities including Mankato. KANcycle has been closed since the end of March because of COVID. The relaunch is planned for Sept. 11. North Central Kansas Teens for Christ has received a matching fund donation of up to $5,000 to help purchase the Common Grounds Coffeehouse in downtown Concordia. The funds were donated in honor and memory of Mrs. Glenda Cyr who died in the spring of 2020. Larry and Glenda Cyr started attending Teens for Christ events in 1972 when they were leading the youth program at their church. All five of their children grew up attending Teens for Christ events.
