Superior Volunteer Rescue Squad is hosting a fundraising cornhole tournament Friday, at Superior Bowl. Sign up for teams will begin at 6 p.m., and the tossing will start at 7 p.m. There will be a free will donation meal available to the public starting at 6 p.m. with burgers and hot dogs grilled and donated by Brodstone Healthcare. Homecoming 2022 begins at Lawrence-Nelson Schools Monday. Instead of having hallway decorations, students will create wooden signs. The public will drive by and vote on their favorite. The parade will be in Lawrence at 2:30 p.m. The pep rally will follow at the football field at the conclusion of the parade. Lovewell State Park is sponsoring a 3D Archery Shoot event on Sunday. Registration will be at the archery range located north of the Cottonwood Campground from 9 to 10 a.m. A steel deer competition will begin at noon. Traffic on Highway 36 next week will remind long-term Jewell County residents what the highway was like before the construction of the interstate highway system diverted travellers away from North Central Kansas. An invitation has been extended asking members of the general public to assist with a disaster drill scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. The drill is being sponsored by the Mankato Fire and Rescue Department, Jewell County Emergency Medical Services and the Jewell County Sheriff’s Department. A walking school bus is a group of children (“riders”) walking to school with one or more adults (“drivers”) along a pre-planned route to school. Monday the Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a guardrail project on U.S. 81 at various locations between K-148 and the Nebraska-Kansas state line in Republic County. On Tuesday, the Kansas Department of Transportation began a chip seal on approximately 22 miles of K-148.
