Eight members were present for the November Mankato Chamber of Commerce meeting. President Jason Ortman called the meeting to order. Haley Nelson gave an update on the 2023 birthday calendars. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has started mailing ballots for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee elections to eligible farmers and ranchers across the country. To be counted, ballots must be returned to the FSA office or postmarked by Dec. 5. Volunteers working with Candy Cane Lane have started preparing Lincoln Park for the annual Christmas holiday display of lights but the display has grown so large the committee needs more volunteers to help with the annual display which draws visitors to Superior from a wide area. It’s time for the annual “Scouting 4 Food” drive in support of the Nuckolls County Food Pantry. The Superior Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts are joining forces to collect donations for the pantry on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, October 29, Jewell’s Lake Emerson hosts its first ever Aisle of Frights. The event is family-friendly and Halloween-themed. Participants will find zombies and ghosts lurking along the walking trail that meanders around Lake Emerson. Visitors can ride a trailer or walk the trail and discover who or what is out haunting. This weekend is the 80th Anniversary of the Jewell Corn Show! The first show, called “The Jewell County Corn Show,” was held on Nov. 21, 1942.
