  • Puffs

    Allen Ostdiek|Dec 22, 2021

Christmas . . . Billions of words have already been written, and many more will come. I’ve noted before that to get into the “Christmas Spirit,” one thing that helps is to attend a Christmas program by the youngsters of your church or school. It has been an inspiration for me many times over the years. It was best when the schools would include the authentic reason for the day. i. e. its religious roots. I’ve seen several this year and they were very good. However, anything religious about them was maybe a song or two that somehow had a verse...

  • Memories of Christmas Past

    Teraesa Bruce|Dec 22, 2021

Other than the fun of Halloween, Christmas has to be one of my favorite times of the year. I love the decorations, the lights, the carols, the tree, the excitement and the food. I will never know why anyone waits until Christmas to make fudge and peanut brittle. Tradition, I suppose. One of my favorite Christmas memories was caroling with my church family in Oak. Every year the congregation would get bundled up and climb onto a flatbed trailer covered in small straw bales to be chauffeured all over town singing Christmas hymns at home after...

  • December Storm an example of Nebraska weather

    Allen Ostdiek|Dec 22, 2021

The 2021 Autumn weather in Nebraska has been very nice. No rain, but mild temperatures and not a lot of wind. However, that all came to a change last Wednesday, Dec. 15. "A storm to remember," is one phrase that seemed to be popular after the day, and night passed. The "Weather Reporters" seemed to do a great job in their prediction of the storm, but it was an event a person had to 'experience' to fully appreciate what was happening. This reporter isn't sure of records, but many people will...

  • L-N Lady Raiders one point shy of win

    Dec 22, 2021

One point behind . . . OK, maybe they needed two points to win, but that one point on the scoreboard stands out. The L-N Lady Raiders traveled to Friend, Nebraska last week Friday for a single game. In spite of playing with a lot of spirit, they ended up on the low side of the score, 34-35.
