This bit of information was recently noted and thought it should be shared, “Time is precious. Memories remind us that nothing lasts forever. Enjoy life and remember, don’t count the days. Make the days count.” This sounded like something we all need to be thinking on especially during the holiday seasons. We take so much for granted these days. We need to enjoy times with the grandparents, the parents, the aunts and uncles. Children may be wishing they could hurry up and learn to walk, talk, get through school, but time does fly and all too so...
We can not talk about the sounds of Christmas without mentioning Christmas bells. Many of my younger friends often share their memories of riding around Superior with Santa Claus on his motorized sleigh. Of course that sleight had a sound system which could be heard for blocks and helped build the day’s festive spirit. Today it would be considered primitive but in those days it was considered to be a marvelous system. That particular sleigh began as a dream fostered by two Superior area residents, Eugene Karmazin, the operator of a downtown S...

It never changes, there always are folks who fail to recognize the good things happening in a community. That was the case in Superior in 1923 when the following store first appeard in The Express. So get ready for a trip back in time to see the news for a century ago. The Superior Express Dec. 27, 1923 Headline:Superior shows good progress the past year A lot of good citizens have been heard to...

The unthinkable happened in Superior, after 11 p.m. Sunday. News that a mother had been shot and killed sent shock waves rolling throughout the community and has been the main topic of discussion since. While street conversation and news reports contain lots of information, some of it may be true and some may not. Those investigating the case are reluctant to say much with the investigation continuing. Apparently the firing of a gun which left one person dead ended an ongoing domestic dispute. Molly Gruber, 35, was taken by ambulance to the...
Christmas is a time for sharing love with family and friends through gifts and get-togethers. It is also a time to remember less fortunate people with gifts and food – especially children. A gift always puts a smile on a child’s face. Right? People in our area joined in packing 487 shoeboxes for children ages 2 through 14 in other countries. Lots of love went into each and every box. Many of these children have never received a gift or had anything that was truly their own. The gift put a smile on their face but did so much more. They are ama...
