Last weekend's basketball games got cut in half because of to an ice storm out west. Rock Hills Lady Grizzlies handily defeated the Thunder Ridge Lady Longhorns by a score of 55-29 in a pre-season tournament game held on Dec.10, in Stockton, dominating the offensive and defensive scheme of things from start to finish. Keenan L. Elliott, 73, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec, 13, 2024, at his home in Belleville, Kansas. Keenan was born Oct. 6, 1951, to LeeRoy and Bonnie (Botz) Elliott of Republic. The Superior Wildcat girls won over the Fairbury Jeffs 50-24 last Tuesday at Fairbury for their second straight win of the season. Superior out scored Fairbury 17 to 7 the first quarter to set the tone of the game. However, the Jeffs rallied and both teams scored 10 points in the second quarter. Saturday the Superior boys competed at Meridian in the Bob Oliver Pin Invitational with 20 other teams. The Wildcats placed second with 225 points. Tri-County won the tournament with 240 points. Wrestling fans may have noticed, there are some rule changes this season. Take downs are scored differently this year. A take down is now worth three points. Last year, a wrestler earned only two. Another scoring change relates to seconds a wrestler keeps their opponent’s back on the matt. Two seconds earns two points, three seconds - three points and four seconds earns four point.
