    The Superior High School boys basketball team opened the season with a 52-26 win over the Republic County Buffaloes at Belleville Saturday. The Wildcats played Fairbury, at Fairbury, Tuesday, with game results unavailable at press time. Superior trailed 12-9 after the first quarter.     It was a busy Friday and Saturday for the Superior High School wrestling team. The Wildcats competed at the Sandy Creek quadrangular Friday. The team competed at the Harvard Invitational Saturday. The Wildcat squad rosters a large number of underclassmen who are looking to gain experience throughout the season. Superior faced off against Sandy Creek’s USD5 team which has wrestlers from Red Cloud, Lawrence-Nelson and Blue Hill on their roster through cooperative programs.     The Rock Hills High School boys basketball team dropped their season opener, 37-26, against Pike Valley at Mankato. The game was the opening round of the T-Bird Invitational Tournament, The Grizzlies played Clifton-Clyde, at Clyde, Tuesday, with game results unavailable at press time.     The Rock Hills High School girls basketball team kicked off the season campaign with a 45-34 win over the Pike Valley Panthers at Mankato Friday. It was the opening round game of the T-Bird Invitational Tournament. The Grizzlies played Clifton-Clyde, at Clyde, Tuesday, in the second round with game results unavailable at press time.     The first two games of the 2022-2023 Lawrence-Nelson High School girls basketball team were less than kind for the Raiders. The Raiders dropped their season opener, 45-33, Friday, to the Red Cloud Warriors, at Red Cloud. The Thayer Central Titans handed the Raiders a gut-wrenching 31-29 loss at Hebron Saturday.     The Lawrence-Nelson boys basketball team opened the season with a 34-26 win over the Red Cloud Warriors at Red Cloud, Friday. The Thayer Central Titans were less cooperative as they downed the Raiders 40-24 at Hebron Saturday. The Raiders and Warriors played it close for the first three quarters.     The USD 5 Red Raider wrestling team, comprised of Sandy Creek, Lawrence-Nelson, Blue Hill and Red Cloud student athletes, competed at a quadrangular match at Sandy Creek Friday. The team competed at the Harvard Invitational Saturday. Nathan Elledge finished in seventh place at the Harvard match in the 285 pound weight bracket. His season record stands at 2-3.
