    A survey of Nebraska hospitals on Monday reported only 21 percent of the intensive care beds were available and rural hospitals that were running out of room were having trouble finding places they could transfer patients to. If the current COVID-19 spread trend continues the total number of cases in Nebraska is expected to double every three weeks. This trend alarms hospital officials who are wondering how they can treat not only the COVID patients but their regular load of patients with more normal problems like accidents and heart attacks....

    If you have let various feeble excuses keep you from attending the annual Republic Turkey Trot, you will have to find new reasons this year for the trot has gone virtual. That’s right.   • Water main breaks in Superior

    Some Superior residents suffered a reduction in their residential water pressure Monday. An older main broke at the intersection of Eighth and National Streets. Approximately 20 homes were affected by the break. Eight of those houses suffered significant pressure loss. The water system functioned as it should and reduced pressure was the result.     Lawrence-Nelson High School received a $2,000 grant for a new weekend backpack program. The grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America’s (FCS America) Working Here Fund. Lawrence-Nelson High School will be introducing a new weekend food backpack program in 2020. The program will provide food to food insecure students on weekends and when school isn’t in session.   • Guns stolen from Mankato property

    Jewell County Law Enforcement officers are investigating a Mankato burglary which apparently happened in the 400 block of South Center Street sometime between Sept. 20 and Nov. 14. Seven firearms were reportedly stolen.
