After an explosion rocked the Superior East elevator operated by the Aurora Cooperative on Saturday afternoon, firefighters worked the better part of two days to contain the related fire. In many Nebraska counties including Nuckolls, polls were open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and early indications were that the turnout in would be heavy because of the interest in the presidential race. South Central Public Power District with headquarters in Nelson is currently negotiating with ISI Solar of Central City with regard to the proposed construction of a 1-megawatt solar farm to be located in Clay County’s Saronville area. The City of Superior will continue to keep the current COVID-19 restrictions in place until at least Nov. 13. The Superior City offices will continue to have their doors closed to the public. South Heartland District Health Department (SHDHD) officials reported 85 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in four days (Friday through Monday), bringing the cumulative number of cases in the four-county health district to 1,556. The new confirmed cases for the four-day period include: 51 in Adams, 20 in Clay, eight in Nuckolls and six in Webster. A motorcycle accident discovered in the early hours of Saturday left one Superior resident dead and three other people seriously injured. Killed in the crash was Christopher Lovegrove, his wife, Britni (Oakman) Lovegrove was injured and hospitalized in Salina. Friends Mekenzie Ehlers and Conray Sjolander were taken to a Lincoln hospital. Sjolander regained consciousness on Monday and reports on Tuesday indicate he has been slowly improving. On Oct. 28, Jewell County deputies conducted a traffic stop for failure to maintain lane on Highway 36 in Mankato. Upon further investigation, deputies located 48 grams of marijuana, paraphernalia and $600 in counterfeit money. The City of Burr Oak will receive a $16,000 grant to assist in purchasing and installing new street signs throughout the city. The Trucks for Trump and Back the Blue Rally was held in Hastings on Sunday. Jeremy Thiel of Hastings planned the event, along with a few of his friends. I have often been impressed by the intelligence shown by the animals we closely associate with. A current example is our neighborhood cat. The Rock Hills High School football team ended their season with a sigh. Their cross district game with the Wetmore Cardinals was canceled because of COVID-19 related issues. The issue was not with the Rock Hills squad. The game was recorded as a no-contest. It does not count in the standings for either team. Because of the short time period after notification of the cancellation by Wetmore, Rock Hills officials were unable to arrange a game with another team.
