The Superior High School football team edged the Gibbon Buffaloes, 23-19, at Brodstone Memorial Field Thursday to close out their 2024 season with a 4-5 record. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, their wildcard points fell just shy of securing a Class C2 playoff berth. Danny Lee Simmelink was born to Mary (Tucker) and Floyd Simmelink on Dec. 11, 1950, at Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, Kansas. He died at his home surrounded by family on Oct. 23, 2024 at the age of 73. Danny grew up on a farm north of Cawker City until 1962 when his family moved to the farm northwest of Ionia where Danny farmed and ranched the rest of his life. Xavier C. Robison, 20, of Republic, Kansas, died on Oct. 23, 2024, in rural Belleville, Kansas. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 at the Scandia United Methodist Church, Scandia, Kansas. Ricky Lee Hoelting died on Oct. 18, 2024 at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Joan Hoelting, and sister, Debra.
