    SHS girls golf It was quite the season for the Superior High School girls golf team. From their first match to Tuesday’s final round at the state championship at Columbus, the team set and met the highest of expectations. The girls golf program had been moribund for several years. At the urging of three golfers who competed with the boys team last spring, Kirk Utecht agreed to coach the team. However there were caveats attached. The team members were required to practice.     The Superior High School volleyball team continued to roll up the wins this week. They downed Sandy Creek, at Sandy Creek, in four sets, 15-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-17, last Tuesday. They downed the Thayer Central Titans, at Hebron, Thursday. It took four sets to put away the Titans, 25-21, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-12.     It was a tale of two halves not making a whole for the Superior High School football team Friday. The Wildcats and the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals were evenly matched on the field throughout the first two quarters of play. Each team scored a touch down in the second quarter to leave the field tied at seven at the half. Then the wheels came off for Superior. The offensive line turned porous. It was a busy week for the Raiders. They downed the Blue Hill Bobcats, at Blue Hill, last Tuesday, 19-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-20 and 15-13, for the four-set win.     It was a rough ending for the regular season portion of the of the Lawrence-Nelson High School football team 2021 schedule. The Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles sank their talons into the Raiders and never let loose. The Raiders were left with a 44-14 loss and 3-5 regular season record after Friday’s road loss. Krayton Kucera launched 32 pass attempts and completed 20 for 129 yards. Toby Kotinenk made eight receptions for 54 yards. Balyn Bargen reeled in five passes for 42 yards.     Donald Lee Day, 94, the son of Eugene and Marie (Willy) Day was born Feb. 13, 1927, at Hebron. He died Oct. 13, at the Thayer County Health Services in Hebron. He is survived by his children: Kathy Hudson of Hebron; Doug Day of Billings, Mont.; Mrs. Mike Olsen (Judy) of Lincoln, Neb.; Steve Day of Hebron; seven grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.
