    Neva Irene (Stites) Shoemaker was born Aug. 19, 1928, on a farm northwest of Ionia, Kan. She died Oct. 13, 2022. Her parents were George Oscar and Helen Allene (Clark) Stites. She grew up on the farm where she was born and attended the first two years of grade school at the Livers Country School. Neva finished grade school and high school in Ionia, graduating from Ionia Rural High School in 1946.     Carl C. Juett, 78, the son of Charles Patrick and Mollie Rose (Baumiester) Juett, was born July 21, 1944, at Central City. He died Oct. 10, at the Brodstone Healthcare Hospital. Carl was a long time resident of the Superior area. At a young age Carl quit school to help out on the farm. After the death of his father, Carl moved to Superior at the age of 39.     The Lawrence-Nelson volleyball team continued their slog through their punishing schedule with a 2-1 record for the week. The Raiders topped the Blue Hill Bobcats at Nelson, It took four sets, 13-25, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-19. last Tuesday The team participated in the Twin Valley Conference Tournament at Kenesaw Saturday The Raiders handled Blue Hill in two sets, 25-19 and 25-15.     Roan Jarosik carried his impressive regular season performances into the District C-4 meet run over the Elks Country Club course at Hastings Thursday. Jarosik, a sophomore, took second place and earned a trip to the state championship for his effort. His time was 17:21.94. Sean Heaton took 51st place with his time of 20:34.07.     The Lawrence-Nelson High School football team has high hopes as they head into the playoff season. The Raiders clinched their playoff spot with a 76-18 win over the Deshler Dragons at Lawrence, Friday. Deshler stunned the Raiders with a sustained opening drive to score the first touchdown. After the realization set in that they could not overlook the team they were playing, Lawrence-Nelson settled down and dominated the outclassed Dragons. The tough part of the season now lies ahead.     The Rock Hills High School football team hosted Clifton-Clyde at Mankato Friday. They were rewarded with a 50-0 for their hospitality. Game play was called at 7:43 in the third quarter because of the mercy rule. The loss left the Grizzlies with a 2-5 record for the season. Game statistics were unavailable at press time.     Two members of the Rock Hills High School cross country team compete with Pike Valley through a cooperative program during the regular season. Two members of the team earned all-league honors on the Northern Plains League team. Trystn Reynolds and Kobi Bowers both earned second team honors. They are sophomores.     The regular volleyball season concludes Tuesday for the Rock Hills High School team. They close out with a triangular match at Lincoln along with Wilson. The team downed Chase in two sets, 25-18 and 25-23, for a win at the Osborne triangular match last Tuesday. Osborne swept the Grizzlies in two sets, 18-25 and 23-25.     The Superior High Scholl football team concluded their 2022 season with a 40-12 loss to Sutton at Sutton Thursday. The loss left the Wildcats with a 1-7 record for the season. Inconsistency and injuries plagued the team over the course of the season. Superior stayed close for the first two quarters, trailing 24-12 at the half.     The Superior High School cross country runners competed at the District D-2 meet run over the Elks Golf Course at Hastings Thursday. Colten Butler finished in 31st place with a time of 20:12:43. Kash Wenske was in 62nd place with his time of 22:47. There were 69 runners in the field. Rebecca Tadeo-Perez took home 32nd place with her time of 26:41.80. There were 46 runners in her field.
