The Superior High School cross country members competed at the Southern Nebraska Conference meet run hosted by Thayer Central High School at Hebron Thursday. The Lawrence-Nelson High School volleyball team won one and lost one at the Red Cloud triangular match last Tuesday. The Raiders downed Red Cloud, 25-20, 25-27 and 25-10, in three sets. The Osceola Bulldogs made themselves unwelcome at Lawrence, Friday, when they sank their teeth into the Raiders and didn’t let go until they left with a 52-14 win. Doyall Dean Hartley, 84, of Chester, the son of Leslie (Bill) and Hazel (Degenhardt) Hartley, was born Nov. 17, 1936, in Hebron. He died Oct. 5, at his residence in Chester. Doyall grew up in Chester and graduated from Chester High School with the Class of 1954. He was proud to be a part of the 1953 state championship basketball team, that was later inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.
