    The Rock Hills High School cross country team is enjoying success in their first season. The team traveled to Lincoln, Thursday, for the Lincoln Invitational. The boys team brought home a second place finish in the nine team field. The runners faced a challenging course with small steep hills as well as long medium grade hills.     James Kelly Peteete died Oct. 4, 2023, at the Jewell County Hospital ISB unit. He was born Nov. 4, 1947, at Lackland Airforce Base, San Antonio, Texas, to James and Clarice (Kelly) Peteete. The family moved to Mont- rose, Kansas in 1949. Kelly's roots were in Montrose. He attended school in Montrose, graduating in 1965. From high school he attended one year at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, then transferred to Cloud County in Concordia, where he spent one semester. In 1967, he enlisted...

    Curtis (Curt) M. Rafferty, 79 of Lee's Summit, Missouri, died on the morning of Sept. 29, 2023, at Lee's Summit Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 4, 1943, in Belle-ville, Kansas, to Peter (Mike) Raf- ferty and Maxine Semke Rafferty. He grew up in Mankato, Kansas where, as Curt described, he lived an "Opie" childhood. After graduating from Fort Hays State University in 1969, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to work for Allstate Insurance Company as an insurance agent. He retired in 2008...

    The Superior High School football team is still looking for their first win of the season after they fell to McCool Junction, 64-20, at McCool Junction, Friday. Game statistics were unavailable at press time. Superior was within striking distance of the Mustangs at the half when they trailed 22-6.     The Rock Hills High School volleyball team swept two matches at the Natoma triangular match last Tuesday. They haded host Natome a two-set, 25-13 and 25-13, loss.     Rayne Biltoft, the lone Superior High School girls golf team qualifier for the state championship match played over the Lake Maloney Golf Club course at North Platte, was in 72nd place with her round of 113 after Monday’s opening round. Biltoft bounced back Tuesday, shooting a round of 105 for a two-day total of 218. She was tied for 68th place as of press time. There were 91 golfers in the field....
