    The Lawrence-Nelson High School volleyball team lost to the Elm Creek Buffaloes, 21-25, 19-25-25-16 and 18-25, at Lawrence, last Tuesday. The Raiders hosted Nebraska Lutheran at Lawrence Tuesday with match results unavailable at press time. Kara Menke recorded 13 kills. Brynn Harrison hammered down 10 kills.     David E. (Gene) Genung, the son of David A. and Olive Genung, was born Dec. 26, 1932, in Oconto, Nebraska. He died on Sept. 27, 2024, at Brodstone Healthcare Hospital in Superior at the age of 91. Gene attended grade school and high school in Nelson, Nebraska.     The Rock Hills High School cross country team competed at the Beloit Invitational last Thursday. The race was run over the Cawker City Golf Club course alongside Waconda Lake. There were 26 teams entered in the meet. The girls junior varsity runners had an excellent showing. Alivia Lindberg finished in third place while Chloe Rothchild took home seventh place.     The Rock Hills High School volleyball team split their two matches at the triangular match they hosted at Mankato last Tuesday. Sylvan-Lucas handed the Grizzlies their second loss of the season, 25-23, 20-25 and 25-23, in three close sets. Rock Hills downed Pike Valley in two sets, 25-11 and 25-10. Rock Hills hosted the Rock Hills tournament at Mankato Saturday. The Grizzlies went 4-1 in their five matches to improve their record to 24-3.     It was another rough outing for the Rock Hills High School football team. The Lincoln Leopards sank their claws into the Grizzlies and did not release them. Rock Hills played host to Lincoln at Mankato Friday and were handed their second consecutive loss after winning their first three games.     The Superior High School football team struggled against a tough Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinal team at Doniphan Friday. The Cardinals opened up a 16-0 first quarter lead. Superior scored a touchdown but unfortunately the Cardinals added two more touchdowns to take a 30-7 lead at the half. The Wildcats narrowed the score to 30-13 in the third quarter.     The Superior High School volleyball team went 2-2 in their matches at the Hastings St. Cecilia tournament. In a battle of the Cats, the Cross County Cougars handed the Wildcats a three-set, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-23, loss. They rebounded with a two-set, 25-20 and 24-14 sweep, of Wood River.
