    Laurence Ulmer dies The father of Lawrence area resident, Michelle (Mrs. Paul) Kohmetscher died Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton. A memorial service was held Sept. 30, at the Federated Church in Sutton. Mr. Ulmer was born Dec. 19, 1936, to Edmund and Christine Ackerman Ulmer on their Fillmore County farm. He attended Country School and then Sutton High School. He farmed and served in the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserves from 1958 to 1964. He married Phyllis Houts in 1959.     Connie J. Meyer, 69, the daughter of Patricia (Doake) and Carl D. Hanes, was born April 21, 1952, at Wray, Colo. She died unexpectedly at her home in Guide Rock on Sept. 28. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters. Survivors are her daughter, Jennifer Quirino; a son, Joshua Blair; three grandchildren; brothers, Wade Hanes, Michael Norton, John Norton, David Norton and John Price; and a sister, Starla McIntyre.     The Superior High School volleyball team has held the championship trophy at the Hastings St. Cecilia Invitational for the past years. There would not be a sixth year.     The Superior High School football team tamed the Fillmore Central Panthers 27-7 at Superior's Brodstone Memorial Field Friday. The win lifted the Wildcats to a 4-2 record for the season. Both the offense and defense were consistent when it mattered. Superior jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead and never looked back.     The Superior High School cross country team members competed at the Beloit Invitational Thursday. Brayton Meyer placed 19th in the Middle School two mile run with his time of 13:11. There were 53 seventh and eighth graders entered in the event. Meyer is a seventh grader. Laci Kirchhoff finished in 18th place in the varsity girls 5K run with her timer of 22:12.3.     Inclement weather led to the cancellation of the Superior High School girls golf team final regular season match Thursday. The Wildcats were set to compete at the Centura Invitational at Cairo. The possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rains led to the match being cancelled. The Wildcats shifted their attention to the district match and a berth at the state tournament. The last season Superior fielded a girls golf team was in 2014. Since then, individual girls have played with the boys team as there were not enough girls to field a team....

    It was a tough outing for the Lawrence-Nelson volleyball team. They competed at the Hastings St. Cecilia tournament Tuesday and Thursday and the opposition was brutal. They opened Tuesday’s round against Superior, their in-county Class C-2 powerhouse rival. It was the second meeting of the season for the two teams. It once again took Superior three sets to put away the pesky Raiders, 25-22, 22-25 and 11-25.     The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders took the stinger out of the Giltner Hornets Friday with a 70-43 win. Things didn’t look promising as the first quarter came to a close as the Raiders trailed 9-6. A revitalized team took the field for the second quarter and put 36 points on the score board while limiting Giltner to 14 points to take a 42-22 lead into the half.
