    Gloria Schlaefli|Sep 29, 2022

Last week a change in the seasons finally arrived and it was certainly felt. Fall came upon us and most were ready for it. We felt the change as the summer temperatures seemed to hang on with highs remaining up into the 90s and 100s, then within a day they dropped 50 degrees. The weekend was perfect with sunshine and highs in the 70s making for a perfect weekend to get outside and take advantage of it all. Fall is my favorite season of the year. Living on a farm most all of my life, I take notice of the rural sights, sounds and scents of Fall....

  • Editor's Notebook

    Bill Blauvelt|Sep 29, 2022

I don’t know how they are picked for it seems every day of the year is a special day recognizing something. Sunday, for example, was National Daughters Day and Monday was National Public Lands Day. Since I don’t have a daughter, I didn’t check to see how the day was to be observed. I did learn that on National Public Lands Day, everyone was encouraged to explore the outdoors and enjoy the physical, mental and spiritual health values that nature offers. With the deadline for the printing of this newspaper on Tuesday rapidly approaching, I had t...

  • Puffs

    Sep 29, 2022

I know I watch too much TV and a couple of things came to my attention this past week that helped support my feelings. They are: No. 1: I was watching a morning show Saturday. It had news as usual, but towards the end of the show, it introduced a musical band and singer. This wasn’t the first time I noticed what was to come, but it finally got the point across to me. The band was just a four piece band with two of the players singing as well. About half way through their song, I realized I could not understand most of the words of the song. T...

  • Love my crazy life

    Teraesa Bruce|Sep 29, 2022

I left a window open and woke up in a chilly house; it was a brisk 53º downstairs. No wonder I’m still feeling under the weather; this time of year always gets me. With harvest starting, my sinuses will surely be full through the new year. I got a surprise visit from my oldest last night. It was so unexpected and wonderful. I found it funny that he popped in for dinner and washed a load of clothes like a normal kid. That’s never happened before. I miss him so much; he is only a couple of hours away, but it is still hard to get a visit between h...

    Sep 29, 2022

There will be a different look in the end zones of Superior's Brodstone Memorial Field when the Wildcats take the field for their season ending game against McCool Junction, Friday, Oct. 7. The goal posts need to be moved in tocompensate for the difference. The solution, as Superior has fluctuated between 8-man and 11-man, is portable goal...

  • Fogo, oldest living Esbon High grad A look back at Esbon High

    Kerma Crouse|Sep 29, 2022

Then an Oct. 7, 1880 note in the Jewell County Review relates "a five month school begins in District No. 98...although a sod house, it is well fixed up."...
