    Vicki Perrie, director of the Superior Public Library, has been waiting for months for Library Innovations Studios to come to town. It is soon to be available at the library. Plans were for the studio to be in Superior in June but one of the trainers from Lincoln came down with COVID-19. The studio was rescheduled. Then there was another delay.     The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met for their regularly scheduled meeting at the county courthouse, Nelson, Monday. All three commissioners were present. The agenda was light. The board approved the purchase of a salt spreader for the county road department. The spreader will be placed in the bed of a dump truck which is equipped with a snow plow.     In 2020, Jewell’s Sesquicentennial Year, the annual Corn Show has added a couple of new events. One will be the First Annual Cornhole Tournament and the other is a demonstration of Cowboy Action Shooting by Jewell native, Travis Cady. Cornhole players will be competing on the north side of Maag Park at noon, Saturday, Oct. 10.     Something new for the 2020 Jewell Corn Show will be an auction. The auction will consist of three items donated to the Jewell Chamber of Commerce in honor of Jewell's Sesquicentennial. Mark Baxa, Jewell High School Class of 1975, will be the auctioneer. The first item is a clock made by Harold Topliff and donated by Harold and Patsy Topliff.     The Formoso community has completed their main play set at the park. The play equipment was made possible by donations from the Jewell County community through a ProjectWeKan.com crowdfunding campaign and work of the Formoso Improvement Committee at the first Formoso Fun Day in 40 years.     South Heartland District Health Department (SHDHD) officials reported 34 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in the four days (Friday through Monday), bringing the cumulative total number of cases in the four-county health district to 624. The new confirmed cases for the four-day period include: 26 in Adams, six in Clay, one in Nuckolls, and one in Webster.     The new secretary at Rock Hills Junior-Senior High School is Jaid Runft. She grew up on a farm just outside of Scandia. After graduating from Pike Valley, she went to Fort Hays to major in communication studies with a minor in agriculture. Jaid lives in Courtland, which is between her childhood home and work so she is happy living there. She said becoming the secretary at Rock Hills wasn't intentional.     The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT)began a field survey Monday for the detailed design of proposed bridge improvements on U.S. 24 in Cloud County. The two locations surveyed are for the Lost Creek Bridge, .53 miles east of the Cloud-Mitchell county line and for the Cris Creek Bridge, 7.41 miles east of the Cloud/Mitchell county line.     Evin Miller, the daughter of Kevin and Juliane Miller, Superior, was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete. Miller, a Superior High School graduate, was a member of the Kansas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team. She was recognized for maintaining at least a 3.5 grade point average as well as participating in the sport. She was honored, along with seven of her teammates.     Last Thursday, the Wildcat Cross Country Team participated in a meet at Fillmore Central at Geneva. A.J. Leibel just missed out on medals by two seconds.     It wasn't a pretty night for the L-N Raider football team Friday night. Don't get me wrong, the weather was great. The result of the game just wasn't very great to the Raider team and fans as Blue Hill managed to come out with a 33-6 victory.     Rosa Lee Calahan, the daughter of Edgar and Edna (Posvar) Deterding, was born on May 16, 1936, in a farm house on the Wade place on the Thayer-Nuckolls County line near Oak. She died Sept. 12, 2020, at her home in Carleton at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 30 days.
