    Sonja (Berry) Scarrow, age 76, died at her home in Mankato, Kansas, on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023.     Dennis Arley Copas, 84, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, surrounded by his two children and wife of 51 years. Dennis was born Sept. 21, 1938, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Winfield "Scotty" Copas and Wilma "Billie" (Meink) Copas. He was the oldest of four children. Dennis attended grades first through third at Spearfish Elementary. He moved with his family to Lead where he continued his education and graduated from Lead High School in 1956.     It was another busy week for the Rock Hills volleyball team. The Grizzlies played a triangular match at Tescott last Tuesday. They returned to Tescott Saturday for the Tescott Tournament where they played five matches. The Grizzlies went 3-4 for the matches. They downed Glasco in two sets, 25-11 and 25-12 at Tescott Tuesday. They handed host Tescott a two-set sweep, 25-16 and 25-17.     The Rock Hills Junior High School football team added another win to their season with their 44-12 dismantling of Lakeside at Downs Thursday. Rock Hills built a 22-0 lead at the halfway mark and never looked back. The defense showed up for the game while the offense took care of the scoring. Zak Dean scored four touchdowns on the ground.     The Lawrence-Nelson High School boys and girls cross country runners competed at the Fillmore Central Invitational at Geneva Thursday. The 5K races were run over the Hidden Valley Country Club course. Sawyer Cox finished in 77th place in the 92 runner boys field with his time of 22:03.05. Kynnedy Beale held 60th place in the girls 66 runner field with her time of 29:39.48. Paige Huston took 63rd place with her time of 31:46.65.     It was a mixed bag for the Lawrence-Nelson volleyball team. The Raiders swept the Harvard Cardinals in two sets, 25-10 and 25-11 at Lawrence last Tuesday. The Kenesaw Blue Devils then swept the Raiders in two sets, 17-25 and 12-25. The Raiders fell to the Shelton Bulldogs, Saturday, in three sets at Lawrence, 23-25, 14-25 and 18-25, at Lawrence.     The Superior High School cross country team traveled to Geneva Thursday for the Fillmore Central Invitational. The races were run over the Hidden Hills Country Club course. The Wildcat runners competed in the boys junior varsity race. Superior finished in fifth place for the 5K race, with 74 points, in the six team field of Lincoln Christian, Gothenburg, Malcolm, Hastings St. Cecilia and East Butler.
