    The Lawrence Sacred Heart Sewing Circle quilters had to speed up their stitches to complete a quilt to be entered in the Nebraska State Fair. They were rewarded by placing first in the group, large, non-commercially quilted (NCQ) class. A group entry is completed by three or more people. Large is defined as more than 300 inches around. NCQ means no money was exchanged for the quilting so it might be either hand or machine quilted.     Norman D. Hoard, 87, of Courtland, Kan. was born Aug. 21, 1935, to Charles and J. Marie (Mears) Hoard in Harvey- ville, Kan. He died at his home, Friday, Sept. 2, 2022. Christmas of the same year, his family moved to a farm near Randall and Jewell. Norman attended Randall Elementary schools until seventh grade.     It was another rough outing for the Superior High School football team Friday at Brodstone Memorial Field when they fell to the Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles 50-21.
