Coach Blevins’ summary of the scrimmage is as follows: “Our goal for the jamboree match was to get a good look at what all of our players can do. We had different line-ups for each set but kept three people consistant: our setters, Sierra Blackburn and Ella Gardner and outside hitter, Shayla Meyer. We were proud of how hard the girls worked. In this year of a COVID-19 pandemic a little sense of normality returned to rural Nebraska Friday evening as most all schools opened their 2020 football season. For L-N that meant a trip to Clarks to play High Plains High School (HP). The result of the game was a 66-30 victory over a team that was part of the Class D-1 State Championship last season. Roger D. “Charlie” Zeigler, 67, of Mankato, died Aug. 25, 2020, in his home in Mankato. He was born in Red Cloud, Neb., to Byron and Ilene Zeigler. Ilene later remarried and moved to Burr Oak, where Roger and his siblings were raised by Ilene and stepfather, Max Bell. Roger attended Burr Oak Schools and graduated in 1972. Lorraine Sophie Zaremba Hooker, died at her home from natural causes on June 8, 2020. Lorraine was born in Chicago in 1924 to Polish immigrants. Growing up in Chicago in those days sounds like it would be exciting, with gangsters running the place, but Lorry recounted the ones she knew were just “regular joes” who were protectors of the neighborhood. Joseph Ray Herrick, the son of Lloyd and Nettie (Knowles) Herrick, was born Dec. 2, 1938, in Elk City, Okla. He died Aug. 24, 2020, at his home in Superior, at the age of 81 years, 8 months, 22 days. Joe was a 1957 graduate of Deshler High School. In 1957, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Mittan. To this union were born two children, Cheri Rae and Joseph Richard.
