Tuesday was the 75th anniversary of the signing of the treaty which officially ended our war with Japan. A war that began with the bombing of our ships in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Elsewhere in this issue, we have published stories told by area residents about the jubilation Americans felt when the war was finally over. The Japanese had surrendered earlier but the signing of the truce treaty meant the war was officially over. I’ve heard my parents tell their story about Sept. 3, 1945, so many times, I almost think I was there that day. F...
During the past two weeks, students have started the new school year. For most students, parents and teachers, the beginning of the 2020 school year is one of adjustments and decisions having to be made during the pandemic. Some are jumping right into the routine of going back to classes with some precautions taken, and some have made the choice to remain at home and do the “online” schooling for the time being. We have two granddaughters attending colleges who have chosen to return to classes on campus, but with some of those classes tau...
Football season is here! I forgot how tiring it is to chase the kid around to games! We have had one varsity game and one JV game so far this season, and I already have more than 1,500 football photos. I’m having issues getting them off the “cloud” to share them. Technology is fantastic when it cooperates. I’m sure its mostly operator error. I’ve been using this computer and operating system for almost a year now and am still unsure of myself. I am happy to say that most of my photos are better than last year. I’m hoping that’s because I’m f...
