    The Lawrence-Nelson High School football team opens the 2023 season with Nuckolls County bragging rights on the line.     For the first time in several years, Rock Hills High school will field its own cross country team. In prior years, student athletes competed with the Pike Valley team as part of a cooperative program. Enough students expressed an interest in the sport this year to form a stand alone team.     The Rock Hills High School volleyball team will showcase the team with a scrimmage at 5 p.m. today (Thursday) at Mankato. The team opens regular season play Tuesday with a trip to Tipton.     Despite dropping their season opener 74-6 to the Alma Cardinals in Alma, Friday, several bright spots were apparent for the Wildcats. Superior has no seniors on the team. Many of the sophomores did not see playing time last season. The team showed offensive promise in the opening minutes until miscues originating from inexperience popped up.     One thing the 2023 edition of the Superior High School volleyball will not be lacking is numbers. The team has 23 members on the roster as the Wildcats prepare for their season opening match against the Thayer Central Titans at Hebron today (Thursday).
