Darlene Joy (McElroy) Smith, 92, was born on Jan. 18, 1928, in Jewell, Kan., to Elvin and Ruby (Vignery) McElroy. Darlene died Aug. 2, 2020, at Meadowlark Hills – Scenic House, Manhattan, Kan. Darlene grew up in Mankato. As a teen she worked at the Ute Movie Theatre, actively participated in all high school activities, and later was a switchboard operator at the Southwestern Bell Telephone office. Vernon Paul Yung, 62, was born Jan. 4, 1958, in Superior, to Russell and Hilda (Keller) Yung and died at his residence Aug. 12, 2020. Vernon lived on the family farm in rural Guide Rock until six years old. He then moved to Martin Luther Home Society in Beatrice where he received special school and training for life skills. At 18, Vernon moved to Hastings and resided there the rest of his life. A rural Mankato resident, Darrell G. Claycamp, 83, died Monday. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mankato Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Melby Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.... Full story
