While they will be meeting in the same buildings, the buildings have been rearranged and classroom assignments changed. The junior high is no more.     South Heartland District Health Department (SHDHD) officials report new state-directed health measures (DHM) were issued by Nebraska to replace the current DHM which expired at midnight on July 31. The new DHM began at 12 a.m., Aug. 1. According to Michele Bever, SHDHD executive director, the new DHM extends Phase 3 of ‘reopening.’ “Under the new state-DHM, all restrictions remain the same as in the previous DHM, which means no additional restrictions are being lifted for Adams, Clay, Nuckolls and Webster counties.” Bever said. “We will need...

The commencement exercise for the 2020 Lawrence-Nelson High School class was held Saturday in the high school gym. This year the school had 16 graduates.     The Nuckolls county Board of Commissioners worked through a light agenda at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting at the Nuckolls County Courthouse in Nelson. The county road department reported they had taken delivery of a new John Deere tractor and arm mower that was ordered last August. The tractor was manufactured in Italy. The commissioners approved a contract with Theisen Construction for the replacement of deck slabs on a bridge located in northeast Nuckolls County.     Rock Hills School is making changes to adjust to the new school year because of COVID-19. School is set to start on Thursday, Aug. 27, but staff will be back on Monday, Aug. 10. Staff will be trained in technology and deliveries for both remote learning and on-site learning. Students, staff and visitors will be required to wear masks and will have temperature checks before boarding the bus or entering the building.     The Jewell County Health Department received notification confirming the ninth case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Jewell County. The case involves a female who is maintaining in home isolation and is stable at this time.     Brodstone Memorial Hospital employees donated a record 8, 950 pounds to the Nuckolls County Food Pantry through the Can-Care-A-Van on Monday.     With fall hunting seasons coming up, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds hunters of temporary hunter education changes from which they can benefit. Until further notice, online-only hunter education courses, without the hunt safe session requirement, is allowed for ages 11 and older in Nebraska.
