Saturday the Lawrence-Nelson Class of 2020 will finally be able to have their graduation ceremony. This event will not be open to the public. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, all of those in attendance must be registered by the graduate. Each family has an assigned time to arrive and have their family photos taken in front of the school. Guests will be checked off at the front door and escorted to their assigned seats. There will be no receiving line after the ceremony, and graduates will escort their registered guests out by row at the end...
Rural Nebraska is populated by small towns and farms. Medical service is not always just a couple of miles away. However, rural Nebraska is also blessed by residents who know the meaning of the word “volunteer.” A good number of these volunteers are also known as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). The amount of time these EMT’s volunteer each year depends greatly on just where they are located. The Lawrence EMT’s are probably not as busy as maybe an area that has a major highway in its boundaries. However, the Lawrence EMT’s are a busy bunch....

A one person scramble was held at Lawrence Country club Sunday with 28 golfers competing. It was a hot and sticky Sunday. Scores came in showing some great golfing. Winning the tournament was Wayne Hoelting; and, a hole-in-one was landed by Dale Kohmetscher on hole 2. Championship flight winners were 1st: Wayne Hoelting – 57; 2nd: Shane Faimon – 60; 3rd: Tim Streff – 61. Central Community College has made plans for the 2020-21 academic year in consideration to the COVID-19 pandemic. The school ended the previous year by conducting all instruction remotely, except for labs and other courses that required a hands-on approach. The fall semester is set to begin on Monday, Aug. 17, with a return to face-to-face instruction at all CCC campuses and centers. South Heartland District Health Department (SHDHD) officials are investigating a large cluster of COVID cases and exposures associated with multiple events. Some of the cases were reported by SHDHD earlier and some are newly identified.
