A little trip down memory lane this week. Numbers . . . I may give up watching the national news on TV. It seems that nothing appears on TV news unless it involves many, many people. I guess I can understand that since they cover the world and want to tell their stories to as many people as possible because the event involved so many people. Many local news items involve maybe 10, or 50 people, but that is a ‘big’ event. I guess I’d rather tell the ‘local’ stories, rather than the big stories. Going to Alvin Schott’s graveside services la...
The last couple of weeks are finally catching up to me, and I feel as if I could sleep for a month. I drove to Fort Riley with a friend yesterday to pick up Robert’s vehicle. He flew out on Sunday for another six-week training and wanted me to bring the truck home to get some of the maintenance done that it is in dire need of. I’m not sure if the Army, my son, or myself can seem to keep dates correct, but I could have sworn he left a week and a day earlier than I was previously told. We got to Riley a little after lunchtime. We stopped at the...
By Lori Potter Flatwater Free Press The heartthrob has skinny legs, wild hair and a laid-back personality that captivates everyone he meets, from preschoolers who want to touch his head to great-grandmothers who ask him for a kiss. Or maybe it's his stylish accessories: A cowboy-style red bandanna reflecting his rural roots or the reindeer antlers headband and flashing red nose he...
Minutes . . . hours . . . days . . . and months really don’t change over time, but to Keith and Brittany Faimon of Lawrence, sometimes take longer than others. The couple were expecting to add to their family of two youngsters in 2022 when this ‘time’ thing came into play. First, they were told not expect a child, but that they could expect three children. Secondly, when the children were about 28 weeks old, doctors were worried about the triplets coming way too early and they suggested Brittany move to a hospital where medical care was avail...
It was another hot Friday evening in Nelson at the Elk Creek Country Club golf course. The die-hard golfers braved the heat and survived! Perhaps because the course was so dry the golf balls really bounced and rolled or because of the play format this week, but scores seemed a little lower. The women teed off on the even holes and the guys on the odd holes. Royce and Brenda Schott had a low net score of 32 this week and Dorrel Lipker and Molly D. had a high gross score of only 49. Five teams only had 3 over par for the most over this week....
