The Nuckolls County Historical Society held its annual meeting and program on the afternoon of June 27, in Pioneer Hall, Superior. Eleven board members and 30 guests attended the event. In addition to the program, 16 visitors toured the facilities. Richard Schmeling was the guest speaker. Mr. Schmeling shared his knowledge of the Nuckolls County railroads. In Lawrence, the American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion cooperated for the July 4th food service. Dick’s Place closes on the holidays, so on some occasions, the Legion and Sons use the opportunity to serve the community with dinner and supper. Constituent services representatives from Senator Sasse’s office will be in Nelson at the County Commissioner’s Room from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, July 26 to offer guidance and aid to Nebraskans who require help navigating Washington’s federal bureaucracy. In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Softball season in Nebraska did take place. The pandemic did have an effect on the summer program, but all-in-all, the season was successful. Manager Dick Kohmetscher noted they played only 13 games this year and there was no state tournament action for the local girls. Cloma Rae Corman, the daughter of Ivan and Luella (Kinnison) King was born on Feb. 7, 1936, in Angus, Neb.
