    The Catholic Church has quite a number of "Feast Days" throughout each year and last Sunday was one of the more public displays. It was the Feast of Corpus Christi (The Body and Blood of Christ). In the two parishes for Lawrence and the one for Deweese, a procession was held from each church building to the three altars erected where adoration and blessings were held.     The Annual Ladies' Cow Chip Open was held Sunday, June 4 at the Lawrence Country Club will 26 golfers in attendance. After a dry spring, the course was blessed with rain the day before the tournament, making conditions perfect for the day. Winning the coveted Cow Chip Trophy was Amber Epley with a two-round total of 78.   • Nelson Legion hosts pancake feed

    Nelson American Legion and Sons of the Legion made final plans for the pancake feed held on Saturday at their meeting held Thursday. Proceeds from the feed are to benefit the building fund to cover needed repairs and replacements. In other business, plans were made for flag placement on Flag Day and 4th of July, and for the chicken dinner during the Nuckolls County Fair.     Salem Lutheran Church women welcomed Bike Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) Riders on Wednesday, June 7, as they passed by on Highway 14 on their way to Hebron from Red Cloud. Wednesday was day four of the week long ride that started at Benkelman. Water, ice, fruit juice, protein bars and home baked goodies were available to the riders who were especially thankful for the restroom facilities.     The University of Nebraska at Kearney announced students who earned a place on the dean’s list for the spring 2023 semester. Students who are on the dean’s list must have completed 12 credit hours or more of classes with a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale. Students earn a 4.0 for an “A,” 3.0 for a “B” and 2.0 for a “C.” Courses taken on a credit-no credit basis – such as internships and student teaching – aren’t included among the necessary 12 credits.     Central Community College has published the names of full-time students who earned spots on the President’s and Dean’s honor lists for the 2023 spring semester. The students were enrolled at one or more CCC locations, which include the Columbus, Grand Island and Hastings campuses; Holdrege, Kearney and Lexington centers; and Ord learning centers.
