    For most Nebraskans, including those living in Superior, the COVID-19 pandemic rules imposed by the governor’s office and the various multi-county health districts were relaxed on June 1. However, the rules imposed earlier by the Superior City Council have not been relaxed. The rules were reviewed and discussed last Wednesday evening when the mayor and members of the council met but no action was taken that would have changed the rules.     While the City of Superior has not relaxed any of the locally imposed pandemic restrictions, other nearby communities and agencies are doing so. The Village of Lawrence has hired a swimming pool manager and authorized the filling of that northwestern Nuckolls County community’s pool but as of Tuesday the pool has not opened.     Darrell Jensen, Cadams, was honored by Bluebirds Across Nebraska (BAN) at the 2020 National Conference at Kearney on March 14. He was presented the "Bluebirder of the Year Award."     The May 5, Mankato Council meeting was held in person and remotely via online Zoom meeting. The first guest speaker was Sheriff Jacobs. He said he has a position being advertised for another deputy. The town is relatively quiet and citizens are doing well with following rules for the coronavirus.     Both the Jewell County commissioners and the City of Mankato met in special session to submit a competitive grant application to potentially obtain $300,000 each to support Jewell County businesses hurt by COVID-19.     On a beautiful Friday evening, the couples summer golf league at the Elk Creek Country Club in Nelson was launched. Participants established handicaps for the season. This summer the format will be the usual “Scramble” (Best Ball) with a two person team.     A new State of Nebraska Directed Health Measure (DHM) took effect for South Heartland District Monday. The new measures are Phase II of relaxing the restrictions put in place to reduce the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).     Navy Airman Caitlyn May completed eight weeks of US Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, North Chicago, Ill., on April 23.
