Erna Marie (Nelson) Horine, 71, of Minden, died May 17, 2020, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Because of the current health restrictions from the Covid-19 Pandemic, a service will be scheduled in the near future. Elmer John Holtzen, 94, of Deshler, the son of Theodore and Anna (Mueller) Holtzen was born Aug. 28, 1925, near Davenport. He died Friday, May 15, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron. Elmer grew up on a farm near Kiowa where he attended school through the eighth grade. He then went to work helping his father on the farm and spent his entire life working the ground, and raising livestock. He was still on the farm at the time of his death. Health department relaxes restrictions Restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic continue to change almost daily. The information contained in the current issue of the Jewell County Record was out-of-date before the paper was delivered. South Heartland District Health Department (SHDHD) is asking all Clay County residents to daily self-monitor for COVID-19, which includes taking a person’s temperature twice a day.
