    The game of Keno has been a feature in Dick’s Place in Lawrence for a number of years now. A number of people have won substantial amount of money, but nothing like what happened just recently in the establishment. Katie Davison of Hastings was playing the game and ended up winning a total of $13,500. It took a day or so to make the payment, but the woman was paid and hopefully will make good use of her winnings. The game is controlled by the State Gaming Commission.     The election of officers for the coming year was the primary action taken at the St. Stephen Council 1906 Knights Columbus monthly meeting last Thursday evening in Lawrence. Mr. Jerry Karmazin was elected as the Grand Knight for the coming two years. He will replace Mr. Mike Buescher who completed his second term as Grand Knight.     The Red Cross Blood Mobile was in Nelson Thursday. Once again things didn’t go as smoothly as expected. There were 64 donors scheduled, which was super good. While setting up, the workers found out that one of their Power Red Machines wasn’t working. Therefore, six of the Power Red Donors had to be canceled, which was disappointing. The goal would have been exceeded if those six extra donors could have been collected. Fifty-one units were collected which definitely helps many patients in need.     Carol Jane Billen (Thompson) was born in Mankato, Kan., on Oct. 1, 1941, to Lawrence and Juanita Thompson. She was raised in the heartland farming community of Mankato until 1963, when she met her soon-to-be husband, Bobby Billen. to whom she was married for 57 years.     There will be a sizeable contingent of Superior High School boys and girls track and field team members headed to the state championship meet being held at Omaha’s Harry A. Burke High School Friday and Saturday. Superior hosted the District C -7 meet at the Wildcat Community Track Thursday.     The Superior High School boys golf team played their final regular season match at Thayer Central Invitational at the Fairbury Country Club last Wednesday. The match was moved to Fairbury as the Hebron course is not yet open for play. The Wildcats competed for spots at the state Class C tournament, Tuesday, at the Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island.     Trisha Hayes earned a third place all conference at the American Rivers Conference heptathion in DeBuque, Iowa, over the weekend. Hayes hit 3,564 points for her third place all conference ranking and eight all-time for Nebraska Wesleyan. Burke Stadium in Omaha for the state meet Friday and Saturday.     The Lawrence-Nelson boys golf team took to the Franklin Golf Course in Franklin Monday for the 18-hole Class D-1 state qualifying match. The Raiders came home with a second place play-off finish and three top 10 individual medals. Lawrence-Nelson finished tied with Thayer Central in second place with a team score of 373.
