    With the end of the high school golfing season just ahead, the L-N Raiders took part in two golf meets the week before the district meet. The results were as follows: THAYER COUNTY INVITE: Thirteen teams took part in this meet and L-N placed 5th with team scores being: EMF 316, Sutton 325, Fairbury 330, Sandy Creek 332, L-N 339, Heartland 348, Thayer Central 355 followed by Blue Hill, Superior, Southern-Diller-Odell and Thayer Central JV.     "What a difference a day makes" is an old saying. In this case, maybe it was about two weeks that made a difference. Back on May 2, the L-N Raiders won the TVC tourney by one stroke. Now, on May 13, the 2024 District D-1 golf tournament was won in Grand Island . . . by two strokes. Ya, the Raiders won the district title outright by two strokes.     Relatives in Nebraska received word over the weekend of the death of Lawrence native, Harold Brockman. Harold (known as Harry) died Saturday, May 11, 2024 in a hospital near his home in Loudonville, New York. (Near Albany, New York.) Harry was born on August 7, 1930, to Martin Brockman and Mary Kathryn (Katie) Brockman on the farm southeast of St. Stephen.     Lawrence native, Father Irenaeus Kimminau, OFM, age of 103, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 29, 2024, from Quincy Healthcare and Senior Living Center. He was born on April 9, 1921, in Mount Clare, Nebraska, the oldest of eight children of Ferdinand and Mary (Lienert) Kimminau. Irenaeus felt the call to the priesthood and randomly chose the Franciscan Seminary in Westmont, Illinois. His focus was always on being a priest. His solemn profession as a Franciscan was on Aug. 20, 1946, and he was ordained a priest on June 24, 1949. The...

    Elmer Joseph Rempe, the son of Henry and Lena (Ilg) Rempe, was born on Oct. 22, 1933, in Lawrence, Nebraska. He died May 8, 2024, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 6 months, 16 days. Elmer was one of eight children.     The Rock Hills High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Northern Plains League meet at Tescott Thursday. The girls team finished in second place, with 67 points, in the 12 team field of Osborne, Stockton, Sylvan Grove, St. John’s-Beloit, Lincoln, Pike Valley, Tescott, Tipton Catholic, Lakeside, Thunder Ridge and Southern Cloud.     The Superior High school track and field teams played host for the rescheduled Superior Invitational, Tuesday, April 30. Inclement weather had caused the meet to be postponed. The number of participating teams was truncated because of scheduling issues.
