    The Lawrence-Nelson High School boys track and field teams traveled to Deshler, Tuesday, for the rescheduled Twin Valley Conference track meet. Adverse weather last Saturday forced the change of date for the event. The District D-6 state qualifying meet was Wednesday at Sandy Creek.     The Lawrence-Nelson boys varsity and junior varsity teams competed at the Twin Valley Conference match at Franklin Friday, the match was rescheduled from Thursday because of inclement weather, The varsity team tied for first place in the six team field o Blue Hill, Deshler, Franklin, Silver Lake and Red Cloud.     The Rock Hills High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Tescott Invitational last Tuesday. The girls team was in 11th place, with 14 points, in the 13 team field of Goessel, Saline, Wakefield, Lincoln, Tipton, Pike Valley, Sylvan United, Central Plains, Solomon, Tescott, Natoma, Southern Cloud and Wilson.     The Rock Hills High School boys golf team took to the Down Country Club course for the Lakeside Invitational last Tuesday. The team compiled a score of 408 for the event. Other schools at the event were Pike Valley, Chase County, Riley County, Lakeside, St. John’s, LaCrosse, Tipton and Southern Cloud.     The Superior High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Southern Nebraska Conference meet at Fairbury High School last Tuesday. The boys team finished in second place, with 78 points, in the 11 team field of Centennial, Fairbury, Sandy Creek, Milford, Sutton, Thayer Central, Wilber-Clatonia, David City, Fillmore Central and Heartland Community. The event was hosted by Fillmore Central High School and played over the Hidden Hills Golf Course. The match was originally scheduled for Thursday.     John R. Tyler was born on Aug. 27, 1953, in Superior, to Anthony Lee and Helen Lutillia (Howell) Tyler. John grew up in Richland Township neighborhood, and was part of the group of ornery boys that kept their mothers on their toes. He attended school in Montrose, and then Mankato, graduating from Mankato High School, Class of 1971, a class that remains close to this day.     Clifford “Butch” Higbee, 81, died on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020. He was born Dec. 28, 1938, in Formoso, Kan., to the late Harry Jackson Higbee and Gladys Butler Higbee. Along with his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by his son, Curtis J. Higbee; grandson, Cody Higbee; and brothers, Don and Jack Higbee.
