    Area residents had more than a few rocky hours Monday night and Tuesday as a series of spring storms rolled through the area. Record breaking or at least near record breaking temperatures had preceded the arrival of the unsettled air on Monday. The storms brought heavy rain, flooding, large hail, high winds and even tornadoes to parts of Kansas and Nebraska Monday night and Tuesday.   • Raider track teams compete at Del Wicks Invitational in Deshler

    The 2024 Spring weather is not conducive for the track events. Those Nebraska winds seem to have an effect on most all events. The L-N Raiders traveled to Deshler last week for the annual Del Wicks Track Meet. They were one of nine schools competing in the meet. Sydney Biltoft continues a strong season as she brought home two gold medals in the relay events for the girls.     Leonard Henry Wortman died April 8, 2024, at home, at the age of 93 years, 9 months 17 days. He was born to Henry and Johanna (Stolnow) Wortman on June 22, 1930, at the family farm at Ruskin, Nebraska. Leonard served in the Marines and was stationed in California.     The Golf Team from Lawrence- Nelson High School spent several days last week at the Red Cloud Golf Course. They enjoyed a Tri-angular Meet followed with a 14 team tournament. RED CLOUD INVITATIONAL: On Thursday, April 11, 14 teams came together for the Red Cloud Invitational. The day included that ole Nebraska wind to make it an interesting day.     The Rock Hills High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Del Wicks Invitational at Deshler High School Thursday. The girls team took fourth place, with 70 points, in the nine team field of Deshler, Meridian, Superior, Thayer Central, Exeter-Milligan-Friend, Lawrence-Nelson, Dorchester and Red Cloud.
