  • Rock Hills track competes at St. John's Invite

    The Rock Hills High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the St. John’s Invitational meet at Beloit last Tuesday. Other teams participating in the women’s events were Bennington, Lakeside, Osborne, Lincoln, Tipton, Sylvan United, Thunder Ridge, Sunrise Christian Academy, Tescott and Beloit. Beloit did not compete in the men’s events. Southern Cloud was entered in the meet. The girls team finished in ninth place with 25 points. The boys were in seventh place with 37 points.     The Hairpin Women's Bowling League held their annual awards banquet at the Superior Bowl last Wednesday. The meal was prepared by Superior Bowl team members Karla Blackstone, Sussie Jester, Susie Lowery, Mary Sawyer and Kelly Schiermeyer. Cathy Martin and Mary Sawyer are the co-presidents of the league.   • SHS golf team takes first place at Red Cloud quad

    The Superior High School golf team finished in first place, with 407 strokes, at the Red Cloud quadrangular match at the Red Cloud Golf Course last Tuesday. The other teams at the match were Hastings and Blue Hill. The four lowest scores of a team are used to calculate the team total. Conner Blackstone took top individual honors as he led the Superior team with his 18-hole round of 80. Taygun Rothchild was in fourth place in the individual standings with his round of 100.     The Lawrence-Nelson High School golf team competed at the nine-hole Sandy Creek quadrangular match at Crooked Creek Country Club in Clay Center last Tuesday. The Raiders came in third with a team score of 210. The best four scores on the team comprise the team total. Fillmore Central and Sutton were the other schools taking part in the match.     The High School Wildcat track team participated in the Sandy Creek Invite on Tuesday. April 6. The boys team won first place with 89 points. The girls team title was won by Doniphan-Trumbull with 113.50 points. SHS girls team placed fourth with 73 points. Dane Miller brought home the lone first place medal with a win in the 110 meter hurdles. The team placed in enough events to win anyway.     William Louis Gratopp, the son of Ludwig and Augusta (Meyer) Gratopp, was born on Oct. 8, 1922, in Thayer, County, Neb. He died April 12, 2021 at Heritage Crossings at Geneva, Neb. at the age of 98 years, 6 months, 4 days. He attended school in Shickley, graduating in 1940 from Shickley High School. On March 5, 1946, he was united in marriage to Donna Mae Higer at her aunt's home in Mankato, Kan., and to this union three children were born.     Ralph Raymond Dunstan was born March 9, 1924, to Ethel Estelle (Cooper) and John F. Dunstan. Surrounded by his family, Ralph took his trip to join his wife Joy, on April 10, 2021, after living a full life of 97 years, 1 month and 1 day. Ralph was the youngest of eight children. Ralph was born northwest of Formoso. The family later moved to south of Montrose, where he attended school and graduated in 1942.     Hastings resident, Mary Dale Lynch, 79, died peacefully with her family at her side on Good Friday, April 2, 2021. Mary's wishes were for cremation and a graveside service.
