    The Rock Hills High School golf team opened their season, Monday, at Glasco, where they competed in the St. John's Invitational at Glasco. The Grizzlies finished in fourth place in the eight team field. Other teams at the event were Southern Cloud, Tipton, St. John's, Lakeside, Pike Valley, La Crosse and Riley County.     The Rock Hills High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the St. John's Invitational at Beloit last Tuesday. The girls team finished in seventh place, with 33 points, in the 13 team field. Other teams at the meet were Bennington, Osborne, Lincoln, Thunder Ridge, St. John's, Tescott, Tipton, Central Plains, Sunrise Christian Academy, Southern Cloud and Beloit.     The results for the Thayer Central Invitational in last weeks edition of The Superior Express were inadvertently from the 2021 meet. The statistic web site had not yet been updated when we got the stats. Superior competed at the Thayer Central Invitational at Hebron, Thursday, March 31. The Superior girls team finished in third place with 72.5 points. The boys team held third place with 72 points. Ella Gardner finished in second place in the girls 100 meter dash with her time of 13.09 seconds....

    The Superior High School boys golf team competed at the Red Cloud triangular at the Red Cloud Golf Course last Tuesday. The team finished in second place with 462 stroked for the 18 hole match. Red Cloud was on top and Blue Hill took third place. Taygun Rothchild and Carsyn Koening led the team with rounds of 112. Ashton Grassman carded a round of 117., Aaron Allgood finished with 121 stokes. Tate Streit posted a round of 123. The four lowest scores comprise the team score.     The Lawrence-Nelson High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Franklin Flyer Invitational, at Franklin, last Tuesday. Elsa Jorgensen and Brook Combs competed in the preliminary heats of the girls 100 meter dash. Kara Menke landed second place points in the 200 meter dash with her time of 29.59 seconds. Hannah Skinner and Combs participated in the preliminary heats but did not advance to the final round. Menke added another seond place finish with her 1:05.58 effort in the 400 meter dash.     The Lawrence-Nelson boys varsity and junior varsity golf teams competed at the Sandy Creek quadrangular match last Tuesday. Wyatt Brockman and Wyatt Hajny each shot a round of 45. Toby Kotinek and Krayton Kucera each carded a round of 47. Conner Janda shot a round of 48 for the nine-hole match. The varsity team score of 134 was good for second place.     Logan John Roberts, the son of Timmie and Melissa (Druba) Roberts, was born on Jan. 31, 2008, in Superior, Neb. He died March 31, 2022, at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital at Kearney, Neb., at the age of 14 years and 2 months. Logan was an eighth grader at Superior Public Schools. He was active in all the school sporting events, football, basketball, wrestling, track and field and was a quiz bowl and high honor roll student.     Roger E. Macklem died April 3. Roger was born in Homer, Neb., on Jan. 8, 1944, to Hurst and Eleanor (Belt) Macklem. He graduated from South Sioux City High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He married Joan Hunzeker on Dec. 1, 1973. He was a father to Curtis, Christopher, Cindy (Betka), Joy and Jon. He earned three degrees from the University of Nebraska.     The Superior Public Schools NASP Archery team competed at state in Lincoln on March 19. Elementary team 4th and 5th graders had 20 team members, middle school had nine members, high school had four members this year. The elementary team placed third with a score of 2,429. Top three shooters were Easton Payton 236, Jager Griffiths 221, and Darian Chavez 215. Middle school-high school team had a score of 2,625.     In March students competed in Lincoln at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Tournament. This also included a new event for students to complete, IBO (International Bowhunting Organization) 3D Challenge, Lawrence-Nelson took a team of six from elementary, middle and high school. The Lawrence-Nelson Archers are honored to be on the road once again to the National Archery Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.     Friday marks the middle of April and the time for Good Friday services. By now I expected there would be leaves on the trees, green grass and my winter clothes stowed away.     Dawn Miller, a former Nuckolls County Road Department employee and Nelson resident, will retire as Adams County highway superintendent on Sept. 30. She has held that post for about 20 years.   • U.S. Mail truck burns near Chester

    Both the Hebron and Chester volunteer fire departments spent most of Friday night fighting a mail truck fire on U.S. 81 about 8 miles north of the Kansas-Nebraska state line. A wrecker crew came from York to tear apart the semi-trailer loaded with bulk mail in an attempt to salvage as much of the mail as possible.     Area residents are showing considerable interest in Superior’s first city-wide garage sale event of 2022. While the sale date is advertised as the fourth Saturday of April, it isn’t uncommon for the advertisers to conduct their sales on more than one day. The event is organized by the newspaper and those holding sales are encouraged to register their sale with the newspaper.     The Lawrence Community Club is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Park. It is open to youngsters in the fifth grade and below. It you want to hold a private Easter egg hunt at your home in either Superior or Nelson, the Superior High School students studying Spanish are willing to help.     The Sixth Street walking trail connecting Superior’s two parks may be entering its last summer season. The trail, painted on the south side of Sixth Street in what had been vehicle parking, has not been used as much as originally expected. Monday evening, members of the Superior Council delayed repainting the trail pending the outcome of a proposal to improve the sidewalk along the south side of Eighth Street between Park and Bloom streets.
