Sunday I had just finshed dinner and was sitting in my living room sipping a cup of hot tea and making afternoon plans when members of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department were called to Webber. Rita and I gathered our cameras and headed to Webber. All we knew was a fire was threatening a trailer and spreading along the railroad track. The fire call gave us reason to get out of the house, and do a little exploring. As we drove toward Webber, we reviewed previous times we had followed the fire department to that area. I recalled the night I...
Writing has been a main interest of mine for many years. As a high school senior at ole Burr Oak High, I took a journalism class. Our teacher was Mrs. Mildred Mullins and she ran a “tight ship.” Everything went by the “book.” I don’t know if all high schools now offer a journalism class , but I hope they do for anyone who has an interest in writing. We had a snappy school paper that came out weekly. It was called “The Tomahawk,” which fit in with our school mascot, the Braves. A senior classmate of mine, Donna Dye, was the editor of the paper....
Progress . . . The dictionary says the word means “to move forward, to develop to a higher, better, or more advance stage.” Sounds simple enough. The word has historically been applied to material things. For example the average automobile today is the result of the “progress” made in technology as in steel, plastics, electronics, over the past 100 years or so, etc. The TV of today is the result of the “progress” made in many fields that allows us to watch things happen around the world day or night. Progress has historically been associated...
This week’s addition to Love my Crazy life is all about bloopers in DIY! DIY is short for Do It Yourself and has become all the rage since HGTV and the DIY channels made it popular. I don’t know about you, but I was a DIYer before it was popular, and I don’t see what all the fuss is about. Anymore DIY is all about home renovations. My entire life, it has been an everyday occurrence. The car needs a tune-up, DIY. Roof leaks, DIY. Sewer backed up, DIY. One of my favorite all-time DIY bloopers was helping Mom plumb her house in Colorado. This...

Safety and update concerns at Superior City Parks By Sandra Foote The Superior park employees look for safety issues when it comes to the parks’ play sets. Though the parks are maintained and cleaned, t...
