Easter will be celebrated Sunday. This whole week is filled with observing the days before the Savior’s Resurrection. There is the Passover, Lenten, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, then the Sunrise Services and the Easter Celebration Services that are planned and held in churches this area and beyond on Sunday. It is said that Easter Sunday, the church attendance almost doubles. Easter memories for me mostly concern the Easter Sundays of my childhood. Getting up that morning and finding the prepared Easter baskets by our bedsides. Also, d...
When I was very young my brother and I colored a few hard-boiled eggs for Easter. Sometime in the night the Easter Bunny hid our eggs plus many more around the living room. Of course, the ones the bunny brought were prettier than ours, but little ones barely notice that. On Easter morning my brother and I were sent into the living-room to hunt for the brightly colored eggs while my parents watched and kept count of our finds. We always had dogs and cats in the house. After the bunny hid the eggs, the cats determined they were put there for...
For his sermon title the Palm Sunday speaker at the Olive Hill Church chose “Normal isn’t returning, Jesus is Returning.” Instead of his normal attire when delivering a sermon, the speaker wore a T-shirt with those words printed on the front. A member of the congregation saw the T-shirt in a Marysville shop and purchased it. Not only did the sermon have a far from normal theme, so did the Sunday school and worship service hours at Olive Hill for the Webber electrical power circuit served by Rolling Hills Electric lost power a bit after 8 a.m....
Q: Will the believers that die and go to heaven be able to have any relationship with nonbelievers? A: I wish that I could provide a definite answer to this question. Unfortunately, the Bible leaves a lot of blanks concerning life after death, and the information we have is not particularly clear. I know of only one passage that contains any mention of interactions between redeemed and condemned individuals after death, and it’s difficult to interpret. It is the account of a rich man and a poor beggar named Lazarus found in Luke 16:19-31, (...
You can thank my brother-in-law for the beginnings of this week’s story. I was influenced by a small joke I came across in a publication he sent. My thinking went something like this: Unless you’ve been living in a cave someplace without TV, newspapers, radios or the internet, you are aware of all the stories it seems the Liberals are raising about the effect COVID-19 has had on the education of the youth in America. Stories, statistics and just plain examples have been published on how much this current generation has been effected by the shu...
One spring it seemed like every time I bought ice cream, we would end up in a tornado warning. One time the sirens were going off before we even made it home from the store. We had all four boys with us that weekend and were racing the storm home. We were on the road and were closer to home than anything else, so while I watched the clouds boil, Goerge drove as fast he felt was safe. We arrived at the Oak school house just as the rain started pouring down and the winds picked up. We got the boys inside and passed out the ice cream. They were...

It has been a bad news-good news week for City of Superior utilities customers. As March ended the city’s natural gas customers received bigger than expected bills which some dismissed as being a result of colder weather or perhaps a carryover from last year’s artic event which sent the price of natural gas soaring. The good news came about Monday noon when the following statement was published on a city website: “An error was made when calculating the March 31 utility bills. The unit commodity charge (PGA) was entered incorrectly. Bills have...

Progress . . . Development . . . Growth . . . Advancement . . . Improvement . . . Evolution . . . Take whichever noun you want to use.
