The Nelson city clerk has been named the 2024 Outstanding Clerk of the Year award winner by the Nebraska Municipal Clerks Association. Sandra Schendt was honored in the Second Class City category at the association's annual banquet held Thursday in Columbus. Clerk awards were also given for first-class cities and villages. Monday’s storm has been blamed by the South Central Public Power District at Nelson for a large scale power outage that left many homes without electric service. Power was restored to all of the district’s residential customers by 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Willard Dale Atwill, Stockton, Kansas, died on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, at the age of 91. The Superior High School boys and girls track and field teams opened their outdoor track season at the Sutton Invitational at Sutton High School last Tuesday. The girls team finished in seventh place, with 37 points, in the 11 team field of Shelby-Rising City, Osceola, Hastings St. Cecilia, Doniphan-Trumbull, Shelton, Heartland, Centura, Sandy Creek, Gibbon and Sutton. The Superior High School boys golf team hosted a quadrangular match at the Superior Country Club Thursday. The match was moved from Tuesday, March 26, because of the impending threat of inclement weather. Teams from Bruning-Davenport-Shickley, Lawrence-Nelson and Red Cloud competed in the par 36, 9-hole match. Lawrence-Nelson posted the low team score of 165. The 2024 sesaon opening meet for the Rock Hills High School boys and girls track and field teams is at the Bennington Invitational at Bennington, Friday. The team will travel to Beloit, Tuesday, for the St. John’s Invitational. Shannon Meier, head coach for the team, is assisted by Terry Griffith and Terry Bailey.
