    Sunday proved to be a banner day for the Nelson Library. The pulled pork lunch fundraiser was an outstanding success! The staff, board of directors and volunteers thank the community for the support of the library activities and the success of this fundraiser! With the help of Thrivent to purchase food supplies, John and Piper Hodge to prepare the meat, donations of dessert from staff, board and volunteers, the pulled pork sandwich meal was popular with those attending. The funds will be used in conjunction with the Youth in Excellence grant....

    Louis "Lou" William Brockman, 83, of Holiday Island, Arkansas, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Spring- dale, Arkansas. He was born June 24, 1939, in St. Stephens, Nebraska, the son of William and Margaret (Hoelting) Brockman. On June 14, 1969, in Waukee, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Gretchen Palmer, who survives.     Lila Mae Mertens, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Fr. Marty Egging officiated. Burial followed at 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson Cemetery.     Lois Ann (Claycamp) Blass, the eldest of six children, was born to Emil and Inez (Diers) Claycamp on Jan. 16, 1934, in Hunter, Kansas. She died at her home on March 7, 2023 at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 19 days. She was looking forward to joining her husband, children and other family member in God's kingdom.     The Superior High School boys golf team will open their season, Tuesday, with a match hosted by Fillmore High School, Geneva, over the Hidden Hills course.
