Sunday proved to be a banner day for the Nelson Library. The pulled pork lunch fundraiser was an outstanding success! The staff, board of directors and volunteers thank the community for the support of the library activities and the success of this fundraiser! With the help of Thrivent to purchase food supplies, John and Piper Hodge to prepare the meat, donations of dessert from staff, board and volunteers, the pulled pork sandwich meal was popular with those attending. He was born June 24, 1939, in St. Stephens, Nebraska, the son of William and Margaret (Hoelting) Brockman. Lila Mae Mertens, 84, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Fr. Marty Egging officiated. Burial followed at 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson Cemetery. She died at her home on March 7, 2023 at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 19 days. She was looking forward to joining her husband, children and other family member in God's kingdom.
